Sep 06, 2018 Clare Louise Finance Comments Off on The Best Silver Bullion To Buy
Silver bullion is always a good investment, but what exactly is silver bullion. Silver bullion is silver that is formed into bars, coins or rounds. Popular silver coins include silver Eagles, silver Maple Leafs, silver Kookaburras and silver Britannia. When investing in silver you may be offered coins, rounds and bars, but how should you buy silver bullion?
Silver Coins vs. Rounds vs. Bars
Silver coins are minted by a government and can often be used as legal tender. However, some people have been known to create their own silver coins to give as gifts or to promote something. Silver coins that are used as legal tender: The Australian Silver Kangaroo with a face value of 1 AUD, The Austrian Silver Philharmonic with a face value of 1.5 euros, America’s The Beautiful coin has a legal face value of 25c. The Canadian Silver Maple Leaf with a face value of 5 Canadian dollars. The face value on the coins does not have anything to do with the market price of silver.
Rounds are shaped like coins, but have no other markings or etchings like you could find on a coin. Coins have a specific faced value, rounds don’t. Rounds come in a variety of sizes and weights. They also have low premiums because of the labour and machining costs for creating the face value stamp. Coins might be prettier, but they are more expensive.
Which is better?
Not all coins are made the same way. Some silver bullion coins are produced in limited numbers, but at a higher cost. A lot of silver investors prefer silver rounds over bars because they are made in the form of coins and offer more flexibility when it comes to reselling. If you buy a one hundred-ounce silver bar, you will have to sell the entire bar at once. When you buy an ounce of silver rounds you can sell any number of rounds.
If you want to build a high premium silver investment portfolio you could buy counts with a low mintage value. It’s well known fact that older coins have a high resale value precisely because there are so few of them. Pre-decimal silver coins minted in Australia between 1910 and 1945 has a high percentage of pure silver. They comprise 92.5% silver whilst decimal coinage minted afterward 1966 contain 50% pure silver.
Where to Buy Silver Bullion
You can buy silver bullion from local coin or bullion dealers, online silver bullion dealers and auction sites like eBay. When buying from a dealer, you should choose a reputable dealer you can trust to give you sound advice and sell you quality products.
If you are new to the silver market try comparing at least three dealers, be sure to look into online dealers as well. Compare cost-commission, ease of payment, shipping, insurance, customer service and buyback policies. You can get a lot of information by going through customer reviews and ratings.
Silver bullion is a tangible, highly liquid asset that can protect your portfolio during economic crises. Buying silver bullion at this point will give you a decent profit in future bull markets.
